The team at Ecoternatives spent weeks testing and reviewing shampoo bars to find the best one, and we finally landed on the wildly popular HiBAR. And the hype is well deserved.
While many shampoo bars are just soap in disguise, HiBAR is a powerhouse of salon-grade shampoo in a solid form. PH-balanced, safe for colored hair, approved for curly hair routines, and made without any sulfates, phthalates, parabens, or silicones.
What's great is that there's a bar for each hair type:
MOISTURIZE for dry or dull hair that needs hydration. It's made with ingredients like vitamin B5 and propanediol (derived from corn) which attracts moisture like a sponge, bringing manageability, shine, and health to your hair.
SOOTHE for itchy, irritated scalps. Made with ingredients like white willow bark extract to eliminate redness and soothe irritated scalps. And honeyquat, which penetrates and binds moisture to hair; while adding shine, luster, and preventing static build-up.
MAINTAIN for oily hair and all other hair types. This is our default bar. It's made with ingredients like hydrolyzed rice protein, which is like food for hair, to boost shine, softness, and health.
The unique shape of HiBAR Bars were designed so you can use them directly on your hair for an easy and rich lather. Then when you're done, stand upright to dry quickly and last longer.
Each concentrated shampoo bar will last at least as long as a 24oz bottle of shampoo. Especially if stored away from the showers stream, or on a soap dish.
HiBAR shampoo bars are formulated with the same premium ingredients you find in professional-grade hair care sold in high-end salons.

Since starting in 2018, HiBar has eliminated almost 5 million plastic bottles and saved over 800,000 gallons of water.
Their goal is to make bathrooms completely plastic free and to help consumers see that everything we buy has an impact on the planet and people somewhere, even if we may not always see it.
Beauty without the ugly.
552,000,000 plastic shampoo bottles are made and thrown away every single year. These bottles all now exist on the earth somewhere, or have been burned.
Most liquid soaps are 75-85% water with just a bit of concentrate. This means that when we’re purchasing hair wash, we're practically just buying water, wrapped up in heavy plastic and transported hundreds of miles.
On average, the production of liquid soap requires 5x times more energy for raw material, has a 10x bigger carbon footprint, and uses almost 20x more energy for packaging production than traditional bar soaps.
Liquid soap contributes to much more ecotoxicity, ozone depletion, and eutrophication potential than bar soaps.
Most liquid soaps contain palm-oil. Palm oil is responsible for clearing 300 acres of diverse forest every hour. Destroying the habitat of several already endangered species.
I like the angled side and I used it all before running out of the bar conditioner. It does what it’s supposed to, cleans your hair and foams up. Overall it’s a pretty good product!
I have processed, fine hair and I have searched for years for a shampoo that my hair would like. Hibar is amazing! Not only because you don’t have a bunch of bottles in your shower (my boyfriend is so happy they are all gone:) but my hair is soft and healthy!! Sometimes I don’t even feel the need to use conditioner. I have been using this and the volume bar for over a year now and am super impressed. I have one bottle of a previous shampoo that I’m trying to use up and whenever I decide to use it, I always feel a little disappointed because I know my hair won’t feel as healthy.
I have tried several shampoo bars and this is the only one I love. I am a repeat customer five times over. So good! My husband loves it too. I have thick hair and he has thin hair.
I’ve been using them now for 4 years and really like them!! My hair also feels softer and less greasy the next day after washing. My hair is thin and gets oily fast so this helps avoid washing every day from time to time. I would love if it came in a lavender, eucalyptus, or other scent, but that doesn’t make or break my purchase. The mild scent is perfectly fine otherwise!
I was having dry scalp issues because I live in a super dry climate, but I need to wash my hair often due to sweating during daily workouts -- this is the answer! I can use a little bit of this shampoo in the problem spots and rinse and my hair keeps its natural oils for the most part. So glad my friend recommended this!
